Constructed in 1970, the Tour Méditerranée stands tall. It was once the highest structure in Marseille. Today, other giants like the CMA-CGM Tower and La Marseillaise surpass it. Yet, this 90-meter, 24-story building retains its presence. The Tour Méditerranée was originally commissioned by SINVIM. It aimed to address the changing industrial landscape. The area around Place Castellane and Gare du Prado was undergoing transformations. The Tour Méditerranée was a key part of this redevelopment. The tower’s design is striking. Its white concrete panel facades create a honeycomb effect. The building’s core houses vertical transportation. This core cleverly cuts through the office floors. Today, the Tour Méditerranée, also known as the Allianz Tower (formerly AGF Tower), primarily houses offices for the German insurance group, formerly AGF. You can also find some shops tucked within. In 2008, before the Quais d’Arenc construction, it held the title of the third tallest building. The Tour Méditerranée, located in Marseille’s 6th arrondissement, stands at 65 Avenue Jules-Cantini. This places it near the Parc du 26e Centenaire in the eastern part of the city. Its location near major transportation hubs and business districts emphasizes its continued relevance in Marseille’s dynamic urban fabric.
