Founded in 1988 Universitas Sahid Jakarta boasts a rich history. It wasn’t built overnight. Its roots lie in the Sahid Jaya Welfare Education and Social Foundation. The foundation’s founder Professor Sukamdani Sahid Gitosardjono had a vision. He wanted to educate Indonesians. He believed in a future where Indonesians were knowledgeable. They would be pious charitable and cultured.
Universitas Sahid Jakarta began as the Sahid Hotel and Tourism Academy. This academy was established in 1983. It received official recognition in 1986. The academy’s success led to an ambitious goal. It would become a university.
This transformation happened in 1989. The academy became Universitas Sahid. The university started its first academic year in 1988. Its vocational programs were incorporated into a non-degree faculty. March 14 1988 is considered the university’s birthday. It’s celebrated as Dies Natalis Universitas Sahid.
The university’s early programs were in engineering industrial management environmental engineering and food technology. There were also programs in communications journalism public relations and economics. These programs received official recognition. The university continued to adapt. It introduced new programs in accounting and marketing. The university even introduced programs in law.
Over time Universitas Sahid Jakarta expanded. It established postgraduate programs. It added a doctorate program in communication studies. This program is unique. It’s the only doctoral program in communication studies at a private university. The university also focused on quality assurance. It obtained ISO 9001:2008 and IWA II: 2007 certifications. It improved its academic information system. These achievements are evidence of Universitas Sahid Jakarta’s growth. This commitment to education and improvement continues today. This university is a testament to Professor Gitosardjono’s vision. It plays an important role in Indonesia’s future. It prepares knowledgeable and skilled Indonesians.
