Didn’t Jenan, an original inhabitant of Pajang, found it before Indonesia’s independence? Masjid Al Khoiriyyah stands as a testament to faith and community in Jakarta. Let’s explore its history.
Masjid Al Khoiriyah began without a name. Jenan built it on his land in Pos 1 Pajang. This area is now part of Soekarno Hatta Airport. Around 1955, the community renovated the mosque. This was the second construction phase. Jenan passed away and his son H. Martha managed the mosque. He was supported by religious figures like H. Ibun, H. Idris, Salih and Kian.
H. Ibun used the Masjid Al Khoiriyah for communal prayers. He also taught Quranic recitation to his students. In 1979, the area faced eviction for the Soekarno Hatta Airport expansion. The mosque relocated to its current site. H. Ibun named it Al-Khoiriyah at that time.
After moving, community members like H. Zen, Inan and Kholil helped rebuild Masjid Al Khoiriyah. Others who helped included Mawi, Abdul Gani, Limar, Amil Biran, H. Tomang and Sarmilih.
H. Ibun passed away in 2003. H. Rohim became the chairman of the DKM, Zakwan became the secretary and H. Zen became the treasurer. Under their leadership, the Masjid Al Khoiriyah grew stronger and more magnificent. The mosque’s youth actively organized weekly recitations. They also held Islamic holiday celebrations, Ramadan events and women’s studies groups.
In March 2024, H. Rohim passed away. In April 2024, a democratic election selected new DKM administrators for a three-year term. Muhammad Ali became chairman, Abd. Rahman became vice-chairman, Muslim became secretary and M. Yazid Al Bustommy became treasurer. They created the mosque’s first statutes and by-laws. They also improved the mosque’s management.
Their vision is to create a prosperous community blessed by Allah. This will be achieved through activities centered at the mosque. The mission is to make the mosque a central hub for the community. The motto is: “From the Mosque to Prosper the People.”
Masjid Al Khoiriyah is more than a building. It is a symbol of community spirit. It represents resilience and dedication. It provides a place for prayer and learning. It brings people together. It enriches the lives of those it serves. Its history reflects the journey of the community. It also reflects their unwavering commitment to faith. Today Masjid Al Khoiriyah continues to thrive as a vital center. It uplifts the community in Jakarta.
