Founded in 1980, Borupgaard Gymnasium stands before us. It began as Amtsgymnasium Ballerup II. This was in response to the growing need for educational institutions in the area.
Initially, classes were held in the old Buddinge school building. In 1983, the gymnasium moved to its current location in Ballerup. It then adopted the name Borupgaard Gymnasium. This name came from the farm that once owned the land.
Borupgaard Gymnasium has grown significantly over the years. A major expansion and modernization project finished in 2004. This included a new building called “blok 4”. The project also added improved classrooms, an extra sports hall, and a combined study center and library. Study areas were created in all the blocks.
Today, Borupgaard Gymnasium is a large school. It can accommodate twelve classes per grade level. The gymnasium consists of five distinctive square buildings or “blocks”. A large canteen area and study center connect the blocks.
Borupgaard Gymnasium has a rich history of leadership. Aase Herskind was the first principal from 1980 to 1990. Ralf Nielsen followed from 1991 to 2000. Other principals include Allan Kjær Andersen and Thomas Jørgensen. Since 2023, Lars Viborg Jørgensen has been at the helm.
The school has grown in numbers too. Borupgaard Gymnasium now has over 1,119 students. There are around 36 classes. The staff includes about 130 teachers and other employees.
Borupgaard Gymnasium strives to provide a high-quality education. It aims to help students develop into informed and capable individuals. The school participates in national and international networks. This contributes to the ongoing development of general upper secondary education.
Borupgaard Gymnasium embraces sustainability. This includes environmental, economic, and social aspects. The gymnasium fosters a strong sense of community. It promotes academic and social engagement among students and staff.
Each year, the school’s 1st-year students embark on a trip to Sweden. This journey with their basic course classes fosters bonding. It builds a sense of community right at the beginning of the school year.
