Here we are at Fullbrook School. Make every student be better than they ever thought they could be. That is the school’s powerful motto.
Fullbrook School has a rich history. It began on this site in 1954. It was originally part of West Byfleet County Secondary School. Postwar expansion caused the split. The school’s population had grown too large.
Pupils north of Sheerwater Road moved here. The Basingstoke Canal and the railway to West Weybridge also defined the boundary. West Weybridge is now Byfleet and New Haw. These students transferred to Fullbrook County Secondary School.
Above the main entrance, notice the stone plaque. The London County Council loaned it during construction in the early 1950s. The Sheerwater Estate was built for Londoners needing housing. Their school wasn’t ready yet. So, Fullbrook School got the plaque.
The headteacher and governors used it for inspiration. It became the school badge. The plaque shows an eagle and a squirrel. They chose the squirrel because it was different. Eagles were common on badges. The Festival of Britain influenced the design. It celebrated modern style.
The original Fullbrook building reflects 1950s architecture. The plaque decorates the plain design. Its Art Deco style suggests it came from a London building. The Blitz may have destroyed that building.
Mr. W. H. Bean was Fullbrook’s first headmaster. He retired in 1968. In 1976, West Byfleet County Secondary School closed. Its pupils and teachers joined Fullbrook.
Fullbrook School is now an academy. It gained this status in 2011. Before that, it had grant-maintained status. It later gained foundation status in 1999. Fullbrook’s main catchment area includes Byfleet and West Byfleet. New Haw is also included. Some students come from Addlestone and Woking. Goldsworth Park and Sheerwater are also represented.
Fullbrook is a large school. Around 1,500 students attend. The Sixth Form has about 250 students. The school has specialist status. It focuses on Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Computing. It has held this status since 2002.
Fullbrook School aims high. Its goal is that students develop into confident and articulate young adults. They should have a lifelong thirst for knowledge. They should also want to contribute positively to society.
Fullbrook is conveniently located. It has excellent transport links. West Byfleet train station is an eight-minute walk away. The M25 and A3 are nearby. The school also offers free parking.
The school has four houses. They are Phoenix, Pegasus, Griffin, and Dragon. The school colours are navy blue, light blue, and white.
Fullbrook has produced notable alumni. Shoaib Bashir is a cricketer for Somerset and England. Laura Davies is a professional golfer.
