Resting proudly before you is Warmington House. It has witnessed Tottenham’s transformation. Can you hear the echoes of its past? Warmington House stands as a testament to Georgian elegance. This Grade II-listed building graces the High Road. It’s nestled within the grounds of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The house has a rich history. It’s more than just bricks and mortar. Warmington House holds stories within its walls. Originally built in 1828, Warmington House takes its name from James Warmington. He was a farmer and coal merchant who occupied the property from 1851 to 1876. Interestingly, John Alfred Prestwich, a manufacturer of cine cameras, also resided here from 1888 to 1898. He later invented the JAP motorcycle petrol engine. For a time, from 1911 to 1923, the house even served as a restaurant. Sadly, Warmington House fell into disrepair. It sat derelict for decades. It was even placed on Historic England’s ‘at risk’ register. But its story doesn’t end there. As part of the Tottenham Hotspur stadium development, Warmington House received a new lease on life. The club meticulously restored this architectural gem. They brought it back to its former glory. Today, Warmington House is a key part of the Tottenham Experience. You can see it prominently displayed within Europe’s largest football retail space, the Spurs Shop. The house now houses the Club Museum and Archive. Its restoration was so successful that Historic England removed it from the Heritage at Risk register. Warmington House stands as a symbol of Tottenham’s past and present. It’s a reminder that even amidst modern development, history can be preserved and celebrated.
