What if compassion could build a home? Right here on Hillsborough Road, the Agape International Mission stands as a testament to that very idea. Agape International Mission began not with bricks and mortar, but with a heartfelt desire to support adults with intellectual disabilities. In 1992, a group of parents in West Auckland envisioned a place where their loved ones could thrive. They dreamed of a supportive environment fostering independence, community participation, and lasting friendships. This dream took root, and in 1994, the Agape International Mission was formally established as a charitable trust. The Agape International Mission initially rented two properties, one in Whenuapai and the other in Glendene. These became the first residential homes. The need for Agape’s services grew steadily. In 2003, the Agape International Mission purchased its first house in Royal Heights. Another followed in 2006 on Great North Road. Residents were relocated to these newer homes. Today, Agape International Mission operates six residential homes in the West Auckland suburbs. From its humble beginnings, the Agape International Mission has blossomed into a vital part of the community. It continues to provide 24-hour residential support and essential vocational services. These services focus on skill development and community engagement, always striving to create a sense of purpose for each individual. The Agape International Mission is a beacon of hope. It reminds us that love and compassion can create extraordinary change.
