Opportunity knocks at Rosebery School. It is an all-girls academy in Epsom Surrey. This school stands as a beacon of education. It nurtures young women aged 11 to 18.
Rosebery School’s story began in 1927. It was the product of the amalgamation of Rosebery Grammar School for Girls and Epsom County School for Girls. The school sits on land gifted by Lord Rosebery. He also gave the nearby Rosebery Park. In December 2011 Rosebery School gained academy status. It marked a new chapter in its history.
The school fosters a sense of community through its house system. New pupils are assigned to one of four houses. They remain in that house throughout their time at Rosebery. These houses are named after inspirational women. They are Malala Elizabeth Pankhurst and Curie. Previously the houses were named Diamond Sapphire Ruby and Emerald. Before that they were Bruce Drake Faraday and Raleigh.
Uniforms at Rosebery are steeped in history. Girls in Years 7 to 11 wear a kilt and navy blue jumper. The jumper features a red primrose. This is in recognition of Lord Rosebery’s family name. Lord Rosebery opened the school on his birthday. He granted permission for his name to be used. The original colours were brown and pink. These were Lord Rosebery’s Derby racing colours.
Rosebery School was awarded specialist status in 2006. The specialism was for Mathematics and ICT.
Rosebery School boasts many notable alumnae. Jackie Ashley is a Guardian journalist and broadcaster. Peta Buscombe Baroness Buscombe. She was Chairman of the Press Complaints Commission. Alex Kingston is an actress known for ER and Doctor Who. Tanya Boniface is an actress and singer. She was a member of The 411.
Rosebery School continues to excel academically. In August 2024 the GCSE class achieved exceptional results. 36% of entries were graded 9 or 8. 54% of all entries were graded 9 to 7. The A Level results were also impressive. 36% of entries earned an A* or A grade. 86% of all entries secured grades between A* and C.
The headteacher is Mr David Lach. Rosebery School is part of the GLF Schools academy trust. The school has a capacity of 1480 pupils. Currently there are 1421 pupils enrolled.
