New Grace Emmanuel Community Church

The New Grace Emmanuel Community Church actually stands on the very ground where the Grace Community Church once thrived. The Grace Community Church, originally known as the Mennonite Bible Mission, first opened its doors in 1917. Imagine a bustling community of diverse nationalities – Germans, French, Irish, Swedish, Norwegian, Polish, Greek, Jews, and Dutch – all gathering under one roof seeking spiritual guidance and fellowship. This church bore witness to the changing face of Chicago, embracing its multicultural tapestry. Sadly, in 1977, a devastating fire, caused by arson, ravaged the church’s interior. However, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the congregation rebuilt their beloved church. They even changed the name to Grace Community Church, a testament to their resilience. For decades, they continued their mission, spreading love and faith within the community. Sadly, in late 2014, Grace Community Church closed its doors. But the story doesn’t end there. This building found a new purpose, now serving as the home of the New Grace Emmanuel Community Church. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of faith and community that continues to grace this place.
