It has served this community since its construction in 1972. Masjid Muawanah isn’t just a spiritual center. It’s a vital part of the neighborhood’s social fabric. The mosque stands on Girik land, encompassing 1,200 square meters. The building itself sprawls across a larger 1,850 square meters, a testament to its importance to the community. Masjid Muawanah welcomes over 200 worshippers. Five muezzins call the faithful to prayer. Two khatibs deliver sermons, guiding the community. In February 2020, Jakarta experienced severe flooding. Masjid Muawanah became a refuge. The floodwaters reached chest height, but the mosque’s second floor provided a safe haven. It wasn’t just a shelter. It became a hub for distributing aid to those affected. This demonstrated the mosque’s role in social welfare. This role goes beyond prayer. It embodies the principle of “memakmurkan masjid dan dimakmurkan masjid,” meaning to prosper the mosque and be prospered by it. In 2021, Masjid Muawanah underwent renovations. The Jakarta Pusat administration showed its support. Asisten Administrasi dan Kesejahteraan Rakyat, M Fahmi, laid the cornerstone. The administration, through Baznas Bazis, contributed 200 million rupiah. The Setneg pengelola added another 800 million. This combined effort highlighted the shared commitment to maintaining this essential community resource.
