The Melbourne Star Observation Wheel is 120 meters tall, about the height of a 40-storey building. It boasts seven spokes, symbolizing the seven points on the Australian flag. The wheel opened in December 2008 after facing a two-year delay. Unfortunately, only forty days later, it closed again due to structural problems. You see, cracks were discovered in the steel. Imagine that, millions of dollars spent only for it to close after a mere forty days! The original wheel was mostly scrapped, but they salvaged what they could. The supports and those comfortable, air-conditioned cabins you’ll be riding in? Those are from the original wheel. After years of repairs and redesigns, the Melbourne Star finally reopened in December 2013. It’s been spinning happily ever since, offering breathtaking views of the city.
