Established in 2014 the Rumänisch-Orthodoxe Kirche Kassel found its home within this peaceful setting. The Apostelkapelle itself has a rich history. Consecrated in 1967 it was built to serve the growing Friedenskirche congregation. Imagine the bustling construction two years prior its foundation laid with hopes for a second place of worship.
The original purpose for building the chapel was to cater to residents of the Aschrottheim and to bridge a gap between older church buildings and newer areas. The design is strikingly simple. A red-brick cube with a unique feature a free-standing bell tower.
But it’s the interior that truly captivates. The magnificent carved wooden altarpiece created by Hermann Pohl. This impressive artwork depicts pivotal scenes from the life of Christ. It’s a visual journey that takes you through the apostles’ path culminating in the moving encounter between Christ and Thomas.
