The project involved extensive rehabilitation reconstruction and the addition of new structures. The existing 9500 square meters were expanded to a total of 23400 square meters. This ambitious undertaking was guided by a desire to honor Castel’s original vision while meeting modern needs. The result is a harmonious blend of old and new a testament to architectural ingenuity.
Eiffage Construction led the remarkable renovation completed in 2018. It carefully preserved many original elements including the grand staircase Clock Tower and even the old telephone booth. The new Lotissement le Castel includes 115 residential units a four-star business tourism residence commercial spaces and office space. The project received several environmental certifications showcasing Eiffage’s commitment to sustainability.
Before its transformation the building served as the headquarters of the SNCM a maritime company tracing its origins back to the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique. The building’s prominent location at the corner of the Boulevard des Dames and the Quai de la Joliette provided excellent visibility a fitting location for a company connected to the sea.
