Robinson 77, formerly known as the SIA Building, once served as the headquarters for Singapore Airlines. It stands tall at 77 Robinson Road, a proud testament to Singapore’s architectural prowess. Completed in 1998, Robinson 77 boasts a sleek, modern design. Its exterior, primarily glass, was a pioneering feature in Singapore’s skyline. This innovative design, coupled with the iconic Singapore Airlines logo emblazoned on its facade, made it an instant landmark. Look closely at the roof. You’ll see a clever nod to its aviation heritage, designed to resemble an airplane’s vertical stabilizer. Originally built by Obayashi Gumi Corporation, with architectural design by SAA Partnership and structural engineering by T. Y. Lin International, Robinson 77 wasn’t always meant to be a multi-tenant building. In 2006, Singapore Airlines made the strategic decision to sell their namesake building. TSO Investment, a unit of a real estate fund managed by CLSA Capital Partners, acquired the building for a hefty S$343.9 million. Singapore Airlines stated the sale aligned with their non-core business strategy. The proceeds were then reinvested in the company’s growth and subsidiaries. Today, Robinson 77 houses a variety of tenants. These include businesses like Bungee Agribusiness, Royal Sun Alliance, DVB Bank, and Rabobank. It stands as a symbol of Singapore’s dynamic business landscape, constantly evolving and adapting to the changing times. While it no longer houses the airline, its legacy lives on in its distinctive design and prime location in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District.
