Pedra do Quilombo stands tall at 735 meters above sea level. The hike is part of the Parque Estadual da Pedra Branca. This park is the world’s largest urban forest.

The trail to Pedra do Quilombo is about 5.5 km long. It winds through the beautiful Parque Estadual da Pedra Branca. The hike is considered semi-strenuous.

From the summit of Pedra do Quilombo, you can see much of the western part of the city. The view includes the Maciço da Pedra Branca. You can also spot the Maciço da Tijuca. This includes Pedra da Gávea and Pico da Tijuca.

The trail starts at the entrance of the Sub-sede Pau da Fome. This is in Jacarepaguá. The initial 2.5 km of the trail have a gentle incline. There are some zig-zags and open areas. Banana trees dot the landscape. Several viewpoints offer partial views of Jacarepaguá and its neighborhoods.

After the last fork towards Pedra do Quilombo, the trail becomes steeper. You might need to use your hands to climb. There is a passage with steel cables attached to the rock. This helps you cross a fragile area. After a short climb, you arrive at Pedra do Quilombo. The hike takes about 2 hours and 10 minutes.

From the top, admire the mountains of the Tijuca Forest. You can also see the Baixada de Jacarepaguá. Barra da Tijuca and Recreio dos Bandeirantes are also visible. In the distance, you might spot Guanabara Bay and the Serra dos Órgãos mountains.

One group even had a dog follow them nearly the whole way. The dog crossed the cable section and was helped to the top. They nicknamed him Henrique.
