This area, known as the Jüdischer Friedhof Spadener Höhe, was established much later, in 2014. It stands as a testament to the enduring presence of the Jewish community in this port city. But Friedhof Spaden’s story doesn’t end there. This cemetery also embraces the Muslim community, offering a designated area for Islamic burials. Here, the deceased are laid to rest in accordance with their faith, facing the qibla, the direction of prayer.
