Was it the allure of a shared dream or the thrill of local rivalry that first drew people to the SC Lehe-Spaden? Established on July 23, 1956, by 61 enthusiastic individuals, the SC Lehe-Spaden, officially known as Sportclub Lehe-Spaden 1956 e. V., quickly became a cornerstone of the community. SC Lehe-Spaden is located in Schiffdorf, in the Cuxhaven district of Lower Saxony. But the name “Lehe” refers to the neighboring Bremerhaven district, a testament to the club’s cross-border appeal. SC Lehe-Spaden’s home games are held in Spaden, a district of Schiffdorf, painting a picture of local pride and spirited competition. The club’s colors, blue and red, symbolize the passion and energy that drive its members. In the 2020/21 season, the men’s football team competed in the Bremen Bezirksliga, the seventh tier of the German football league system. SC Lehe-Spaden is more than just football. It offers a diverse range of sporting activities, from table tennis and aerobics to badminton and gymnastics. For decades, the club even hosted a vibrant bowling alley, showcasing its commitment to community engagement and recreation. The story of SC Lehe-Spaden began as a football club. That very year, it joined both the Bremen Football Association and the Bremen State Sports Association. Victory followed swiftly. In their inaugural year, SC Lehe-Spaden clinched the championship in the Bremerhaven district class. This win propelled them to the Bremerhaven district league, a remarkable achievement for such a young club. SC Lehe-Spaden continued to grow and diversify. In 1957, a table tennis department was established. In 1966, the company sports group Hapag-Lloyd joined the club, further broadening its reach. In 1975, SC Lehe-Spaden celebrated a momentous triumph. The club won the Bremerhaven Bezirksliga title, securing their promotion to the Verbandsliga Bremen, then the fourth highest league in Germany. For six years, SC Lehe-Spaden held their ground in this competitive league. Even after relegation, their spirit remained unbroken. In 1984, they once again claimed the Bezirksliga title, returning to the fifth-tier Landesliga Bremen. This feat was repeated in 1986 and 1991. After another relegation, SC Lehe-Spaden bounced back in 2007. They earned their fourth Bezirksliga title and rejoined the Landesliga Bremen. In 2010, they narrowly avoided relegation thanks to Hansa Rostock’s second team withdrawing from the Regionalliga Nord. Their third-place finish in the 2011/12 season saw them promoted to the Bremen-Liga. However, two consecutive relegations followed. Now, they compete in the Bezirksliga Bremen. Another interesting fact, a club with the similar name SV Lehe-Spaden, played in the Bremen Amateurliga in the 1951/52 season.
