Originally meeting in the Rectory Hut, the story of Hayes Free Church is one of community and faith. The Hayes Free Church stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of its congregation. We stand here today in front of a church that embodies inclusivity.

The church’s early days saw it grow from humble beginnings. Stanley Sheppard, a student minister, played a vital role. He helped set up the new church. The first morning service saw 35 people attending in January 1935. By June 1937, the growing congregation needed more space. They moved to the empty Pickhurst Manor Lodge. Soon, even that space was bursting at the seams. Plans were drawn for a larger building. But the outbreak of war put those plans on hold.

After the war, the congregation was able to fulfill its vision. In 1955, a new hall was built. Finally, a dedicated church building was erected. It was dedicated on April 13, 1957. This marked a new chapter for Hayes Free Church.

Hayes Free Church is a member of the United Reformed Church. This denomination formed in 1972. It united English Presbyterians, English, Welsh, and Scottish Congregational members. Churches of Christ also joined.

Today, Hayes Free Church continues to be a welcoming place. It serves many groups in the community. The church works with other churches in the area. It aims to be a place where people can explore faith. They can journey together in an open environment. Services are held every Sunday morning at 10.30am. Holy Communion is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of each month. Uniformed Groups attend morning services on the second Sunday of the month during term time.

The Hayes Free Church also hosts Hayes Community Foodbank. It also hosts Friendship Group. Guiding groups meet here regularly. There is also an art club.

Hayes Free Church stands as a beacon of faith. It is a testament to the power of community. It shows what can be achieved through shared vision and dedication. The story of Hayes Free Church reminds us of the importance of inclusivity. It highlights journeying together in faith. As we conclude our visit to Hayes Free Church, remember its message of welcome and community. May it inspire us to create similar spaces. Spaces where all are valued and can explore their faith openly.
