H E Parker Reserve isn’t just a place for sports and recreation. It’s a living testament to a man who dedicated his life to serving the Heathmont community. H E Parker was a prominent local figure during the 1940s and 1950s. He served on the Council and was elected Mayor three times, in 1940-1941, 1945-1946, and 1950-1951. Imagine him strolling through these grounds, envisioning the future of this vibrant community hub. Today, H E Parker Reserve boasts two ovals, perfect for a weekend cricket or footy match. The reserve also houses a tennis club, a bowls club, and Maroondah Nets, a multi-sports complex for netball, volleyball, badminton, and table tennis. Families gather at the playground, children’s laughter echoing through the air. Walkers and joggers traverse the trails, their footsteps connecting them to the Dandenong Creek Trail and Heathmont Rail Trail. But H E Parker Reserve is more than just sports fields and playgrounds. It offers a tranquil escape with bushland and walking tracks, a peaceful haven within the bustling city. Sadly, in 1958, HE Parker’s life was tragically cut short in a car accident at the age of 58. The reserve was named in his honor, a tribute to his years of service. His legacy lives on, not in grand statues or monuments, but in the laughter of children, the cheers of athletes, and the peaceful rustling of the leaves in the reserve that bears his name.
