In 1883, a grand vision took root in Marseille. The Domaine de la Cavalière began its story. Frédéric Fournier, heir to a soap and candle fortune, envisioned a unique estate. He merged two properties to create the Domaine de la Cavalière. He designed a stunning blend of agriculture and artistry. The heart of the Domaine de la Cavalière is a striking contrast. An 18th-century bastide stands proudly alongside its 19th-century counterpart. A charming farmhouse, outbuildings, and even a chapel dot the landscape. Fournier’s passion for orchids led to the construction of eight magnificent greenhouses. An orangerie and a winter garden complement this floral haven. The park of the Domaine de la Cavalière is a testament to intricate design. Paths wind through the grounds, connecting the buildings. They are adorned with elaborate rock formations, creating intimate salons, borders, and flowerbeds. Stone benches offer quiet contemplation, while a belvedere provides panoramic views. A network of canals, both above and below ground, carries water throughout the Domaine de la Cavalière. These canals, originally fed by three basins, sustain the vibrant plant life. Inside the 19th-century bastide, a rare treasure awaits. A panoramic wallpaper depicts grand hunting scenes from the Délicourt manufactory. This hidden gem adds a touch of aristocratic elegance to the Domaine de la Cavalière. The Domaine de la Cavalière stands as a testament to Fournier’s vision. It is a harmonious blend of architectural styles, horticultural passion, and artistic flair. Today, this historical landmark is recognized for its cultural significance. The Domaine de la Cavalière has been listed as a Monument Historique since July 2006.
