Nestled in the heart of Olivos, Comunidad Cristiana stands just a stone’s throw from the presidential residence and the shimmering Río de la Plata. Comunidad Cristiana was founded in 1960. The original building was just a block away from the current church, constructed with bricks made from the very clay of Buenos Aires. The founders of Comunidad Cristiana were primarily European. They established the church alongside a sister community in Sao Paulo. Today, the congregation is mostly Argentinian, with branches in other parts of the country striving for independence. Buenos Aires is a vibrant metropolis, the second largest in South America. Its port and airport connect it to the world. Immigrants from across the Americas, Europe, and increasingly Asia contribute to a rich religious and cultural tapestry. Catholicism is prevalent, of course. But Judaism, Lutheranism, Islam, and more recently, North American evangelical groups have also taken root here. Comunidad Cristiana offers a spiritual haven in this bustling city. The church’s heart beats with its vibrant worship services, which provide the core of community life. From the altar emanates a spirit that nourishes the community’s work in the world. This spirit flows through sermons, sacramental support, pastoral counseling, and community discussions. Comunidad Cristiana’s influence extends beyond its walls. La Choza, a 130-hectare farm 60 km away, practices biodynamic agriculture. It not only heals the land and provides healthy food. It also welcomes young people from around the globe as interns. Other initiatives share the community’s cultural wealth with marginalized communities. Youth and children’s programs include camps, religious classes, confirmation preparation, and youth groups. Comunidad Cristiana even boasts a professional-quality puppet theater run by young people and adults. A tabletop theater delights younger children with eagerly awaited performances. The study of the Gospels is another cornerstone. Six groups regularly delve into their teachings. Buenos Aires’ Comunidad Cristiana uniquely blends worship, artistic expression, and study. Artists contribute music, painting (with special attention to the altar’s colors), spoken word, and theater. Everything connects to the spiritual flow from the altar, guided by the dedicated priests. Four active priests, two men and two women, along with two retired priests, serve the community of about 170 members and countless friends. A branch in Neuquén has become independent, with its own priest and altar. They are currently building their own church and extending their reach to Mendoza and Lago Puelo. Another branch thrives in Córdoba, regularly visited by a priest from Buenos Aires. La Choza also has an altar, serving as a place for community gatherings, camps, and a future senior living community. A new group is forming in Ingeniero Maschwitz. They receive regular visits from a priest and have recently started celebrating the Children’s Sunday Service. Comunidad Cristiana is a relatively young community. Its pioneering founders continue to inspire from the spiritual world. Many baptisms and confirmations celebrate the community’s continued growth and spiritual seeking.
