Climb these steps into a story of faith. Here before us stands Gereja Kristus Yesus. It is more than just a building. It represents a vibrant history and a steadfast community.
Gereja Kristus Yesus emerged from humble beginnings. Its roots trace back to August 1944. Some members of Chung Hua Chi Tuh Chiao Hui Ketapang started services in Chinese. This group later became Chung Hua Chi Tuh Chiao Hui Kuo Yu Thang. They found a permanent home on Jalan Mangga Besar I/74. This location became known as CHCTCH Kuo Yu Thang Mangga Besar.
A significant shift occurred with a decree. The Department of Religious Affairs changed CHCTCH’s name to Gereja Kristus in 1963. Consequently, CHCTCH Kuo Yu Thang Mangga Besar became Gereja Kristus Jemaat Mangga Besar. This congregation became an autonomous part of the Gereja Kristus Synod. It affiliated with the Communion of Churches in Indonesia or PGI.
The story of Gereja Kristus Yesus takes another turn in 2002. Recognizing the need for broader ministry, Gereja Kristus Jemaat Mangga Besar formed the Gereja Kristus Yesus Synod. At the time, they had 11 congregations and 13 posts.
Gereja Kristus Yesus affirms core beliefs. These are rooted in the Bible. They acknowledge Jesus Christ as the foundation and head of the church. This is based on Matthew 16:18, 1 Corinthians 3:11, and Colossians 1:18. This recognition places Gereja Kristus Yesus within the broader Christian community. It sees itself as part of the universal church.
The church has a detailed confession of faith. It includes eleven key points. Gereja Kristus Yesus believes in one God. This God exists in three persons. They are the Father, the Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. They believe Jesus is the only savior. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived without sin. He died to redeem humanity.
Gereja Kristus Yesus believes the Bible is God’s perfect revelation. It serves as the ultimate authority for faith and life. They believe humans were created in God’s image. However, they fell into sin and lost God’s glory.
Today Gereja Kristus Yesus has locations across Indonesia. You can find them in Jakarta and beyond. They also have a presence abroad in places like Sydney and Singapore.
