Doesn’t the name Résidence des Lilas evoke a sense of serenity? It was born from an ambitious urban project spearheaded by the City of Paris. The Cité Internationale took on the role of managing this student haven.

The Résidence des Lilas first stone was laid in 2004. In 2006, the Résidence des Lilas was inaugurated. Bertrand Delanoë the mayor of Paris at the time was present. The Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris manages the Résidence des Lilas.

Atelier Jade et Sami Tabet designed the building. They had experience building housing estates in Paris. The architects emphasized community and connection. They designed the Résidence des Lilas around an inner garden. It is a series of distinct pavilions.

Communal spaces are on the ground floor. These spaces open onto paved terraces. The Résidence des Lilas offers 268 rooms. Each room has a kitchenette. 14 rooms and communal spaces are handicap accessible. Bernard Moïse designed the furnishings. The furnishings are flexible. This allows students to personalize their space.

Since 2006, the Résidence Lila has stood at the Porte des Lilas in Paris. Unlike other buildings it was built outside the historic boulevard Jourdan. The name Lila connects it to Porte des Lilas.

Lila has a deeper meaning in Hinduism. It signifies the divine ballet of souls. It represents the cosmic dance orchestrated by the gods. In Indian philosophy, it is the godly game hidden behind appearances.

The Cité Internationale has 43 houses. It provides rich cultural programs for everyone. Concerts, screenings, conferences, exhibitions, and shows are available. A dedicated team manages each house. Receptionists, managers, cleaners, and security personnel work together. Their goal is to make each stay smooth.

Residents can shape the social and cultural life. Each year residents are elected. They manage the house and represent students to the administration. Residents are encouraged to start collective projects. They can also organize cultural events.

The reception is open weekdays from 8 am to 7 pm. Security is available weekdays from 7 pm to midnight. The Cité Internationale is a unique campus. It sits in an eco-managed park. On-site services simplify daily life. Residents can propose and showcase personal projects.

The Cité Internationale embodies tolerance respect and solidarity. Residents share these values. The Résidence des Lilas offers more than accommodation. It provides a space for community. It provides space for cultural exchange.
