The Résidence des Lilas first stone was laid in 2004. In 2006, the Résidence des Lilas was inaugurated. Bertrand Delanoë the mayor of Paris at the time was present. The Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris manages the Résidence des Lilas.

Since 2006, the Résidence Lila has stood at the Porte des Lilas in Paris. Unlike other buildings it was built outside the historic boulevard Jourdan. The name Lila connects it to Porte des Lilas.

The Cité Internationale has 43 houses. It provides rich cultural programs for everyone. Concerts, screenings, conferences, exhibitions, and shows are available. A dedicated team manages each house.
