Standing before you, the William Sachse Cemetery Plaque, tells the story of a man who, in his own right, helped lay the foundation for a town. William Sachse arrived in Texas in 1845 and settled in an area that would later become part of Dallas County. He was a busy man, tending to his land and trading goods. His efforts to acquire more land led to the ownership of over 5,000 acres by the time he granted land to the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railroad in 1886. This granted land would eventually be the site for not only the railroad but also a nearby town. William Sachse named this town after himself. Today, Sachse, Texas, is a growing community that continues to be a hub for commerce and culture. There is a place for William Sachse and his family in the town they helped build. William is buried in a cemetery just off of the road in the town of Sachse. The Sachse Cemetery Plaque marks his resting place.
