The year is 2002. A young pastor named Matt Chandler steps up to the pulpit at Highland Village First Baptist Church. The pews hold a modest 160 souls. Little do they know, they are about to be part of a transformation that will ripple through the community. The Village Church, as it would later be known, stands as a testament to faith, growth, and the unwavering belief in the power of the Gospel. Under Chandler’s leadership, the church experienced phenomenal growth. The congregation soon outgrew its walls, moving from a traditional church setting to a repurposed Albertson’s grocery store in 2009. This move marked a turning point, embracing a contemporary style that resonated with a new generation. The church’s commitment to spreading the Gospel extended far beyond Flower Mound. They established numerous church plants, extending their reach throughout Texas and beyond. This commitment to multiplication reflected their deep-seated belief in the transformative power of faith communities. The Village Church, however, is not just a story of expansion. It’s a story of faith tested and strengthened. In 2009, Pastor Matt Chandler faced a life-altering diagnosis: anaplastic oligodendroglioma, a malignant brain tumor. The community rallied around him, offering prayers and unwavering support. Chandler underwent treatment and, in a testament to the power of faith and medicine, emerged with a clean bill of health. This experience deepened his connection with the congregation, solidifying the message of hope and resilience that defines The Village Church.
