“All are welcome here.” This isn’t just a saying at St Mark United Methodist Church. It is the very foundation upon which this community thrives. St Mark is a church on the greenbelt in the heart of Austin.
St Mark United Methodist Church has a vision. It is to be a community of transformational belonging in Christ. The church believes in caring for the entire journey of one’s soul. This journey spans from birth to death. It includes infancy to old age. You have the opportunity to re-start that journey. You can do this at any point along the way as many times as you need.
The best way to sustain and deepen belonging is by eating together. St Mark cherishes bread and wine above all. But they also love breakfast tacos. The church is at its best at its most diverse. Therefore, St Mark assumes differences are a gift. They are not a threat to life together.
Christ is present at the heart of worship in the sacraments. He is also on the edge of the community in the stranger, vulnerable, and marginalized. St Mark strives to be a church for people from all different faith backgrounds and none. It seeks to be a safe place for the wounded and wandering. It is for the suspicious and the searching.
St Mark welcomes people who don’t go to church here. The church seeks for its people, property, building, and budget to contribute to the common good of the community.
