Journey back to 1830. That was the humble beginning of what we see today as Bank Audi Headquarters. It stands as a testament to Lebanese financial history.

Hanna Nehmeh Audi founded a money exchange house in Saida. He was just 25 years old. This house was the precursor to Bank Audi. It catered to local farmers initially. Audi expanded his services. He offered interest-free loans to accommodate Muslim traditions.

The business thrived. It became a key financial intermediary. Arab, Ottoman and European banks used it. In 1938, a branch opened in Beirut. Youssef Audi, Hanna’s grandson, took command.

After Youssef’s death, his brother Wadih restructured the business. Wadih’s son, Raymond, initially wanted to become a textile engineer in France. His father’s illness changed his path. Raymond interned at Banque Misr Liban. His father hoped he would continue the family legacy.

Raymond later worked in Kuwait. He built connections with local businessmen. In 1962, Raymond partnered with Hamad Alhumaidhi. Together, they officially incorporated Audi Banque SAL in Beirut. This marked the formal registration of the family’s centenarian enterprise. Raymond is considered the primary architect of Bank Audi.

Bank Audi expanded to Switzerland in 1975. A branch in France followed in 1979. This expansion helped the bank survive the Lebanese Civil War. In 1983, the bank expanded its shareholder base.

Raymond Audi became chairperson in 1998. In 2004, Bank Audi merged with Banque Saradar. Expansion continued in the Middle East.

Raymond Audi briefly served as a minister in 2008. In 2017, Samir N. Hanna became chairman. He had started his career at Bank Audi in 1963. Raymond Audi passed away on July 15, 2022. He was 89 years old.

Today, Bank Audi is a leading bank in Lebanon. It is the longest-operating business in the country. It has branches in Lebanon, the MENA region, Turkey and Europe. The Audi family remains among the bank’s largest shareholders.

Bank Audi introduced innovative services. NOVO spaces allowed live video chats with tellers. Interactive Teller Machines allowed customers to talk to personal tellers. Tap2Pay was the first NFC mobile payment service in Lebanon.

Raymond Audi founded the Audi Foundation in 2000. It preserves the culture of Sidon, Lebanon. Bank Audi also has a corporate art collection. It is located in three of the bank’s buildings.

The bank’s corporate social responsibility initiatives began in 2012. They focus on governance, economic development, community development, human development and environmental protection. Bank Audi also sponsors programs. These programs educate children about earning, spending, tracking and investing money. It nurtures Lebanon’s fintech sector through hackathons.

So, as you stand before Bank Audi Headquarters remember its long history. It started with a small money exchange house. It has grown into a major financial institution. It has survived wars and political upheaval. Bank Audi continues to shape Lebanon’s financial landscape.
