Founded in 1971, Universidade Castello Branco stands as a testament to higher education in Rio de Janeiro. It started as the Center for University Studies Paulo Gissoni. It evolved into a university by 1995. The university’s journey reflects a commitment to academic excellence.

The university’s foundation lies in the Centro Educacional Realengo. This entity maintains Universidade Castello Branco. The institution’s roots trace back to July 3, 1971. An Extraordinary General Meeting changed the entity’s name on February 23, 1973. It became Centro Educacional de Realengo. It settled at Avenida Santa Cruz 1.631, Realengo.
The first higher education courses gained authorization in 1973. The Faculty of Education, Sciences and Letters Marechal Castelo Branco was founded on September 10, 1973. The Faculty of Physical Education of Guanabara followed on November 7, 1973.
In 1976, the two faculties formed the Integrated Faculties Castelo Branco or FICAB. The Unified Regiment approved this with opinion CFE n 2903/71, of 7/1/1975. Recognition followed on 12/15/1976. This included the courses initially installed. The implementation of FICAB marked the beginning of facilities development in Realengo.
Throughout the 1980s, Universidade Castello Branco expanded its academic offerings. Traditional Letters and Physical Education were joined by Mathematics and Pedagogy. Also added were Physiotherapy, Social Work, Administration, and Informatics. The Gissoni family envisioned education as a universal endeavor. They aimed to meet new demands and specializations.
Today, Universidade Castello Branco continues to thrive. It offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. These programs prepare professionals for the modern world.
