Journey back to 1995. Vihara Tharpaling in Jakarta didn’t yet exist. His Eminence Serling Tulku Yongdzin Rinpoche had a vision. He saw a beacon of Tantrayana-Vajrayana Buddhism in Indonesia. This vision became a reality with Vihara Tharpaling, Indonesia’s first Tantrayana-Vajrayana Buddhist monastery. Initially, Rinpoche, Jetsun Wangmo, lamas, and fellow practitioners rented a space in Komplek Karang Anyar Permai. They held rituals there from 1995 to 1997. Vihara Tharpaling was more than just a building. It was a spiritual home. It was a place where Tibetan Buddhist rituals and ceremonies could flourish. In 1997, with the support of Jetsun Wangmo and the generosity of donors, Rinpoche began constructing the monastery at its current location. This location is at Jalan Pangeran Jayakarta number 66 block A1-2-3 in Jakarta. Vihara Tharpaling stands as a testament to their dedication. It serves all Buddhists, especially practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism. Vihara Tharpaling’s presence enriches the spiritual landscape of Indonesia. It continues to offer a sanctuary for practice and study. It embodies Rinpoche’s vision of a vibrant center for Tantrayana-Vajrayana Buddhism.
