The Lakeline Mall was not always the bustling center of commerce it is today. It started as just a vision. A developer, Melvin Simon, dreamed of a grand shopping center that would draw people from all over Austin and beyond. He wanted something special, something that would make Lakeline Mall unique. This ambitious shopping center is located at the intersection of RR 620 and US 183 in north Austin, Texas. Though it has a Cedar Park postal code, it is actually located physically within the City of Austin. After years of planning and construction, Lakeline Mall finally opened its doors on October 11, 1995. It was a big celebration, filled with the excitement of shopping and the promise of a new era for retail in the area. The grand opening featured hot air balloon replicas of famous Austin landmarks. These were later removed in 2013, but at the time, it was a big deal, putting Lakeline Mall on the map. Sadly, some of the anchor stores that were a part of the original vision for the mall have come and gone. Sears closed in 2018. Mervyn’s closed in 2006 and Foley’s converted to Macy’s in 2006. Today, Lakeline Mall remains a thriving shopping destination. It’s a place where you can find everything from clothing and electronics to restaurants and movies. It is over 1 million square feet of shopping pleasure. It’s a place where you can browse, shop, and eat all day long. Lakeline Mall is not just a place to shop; it’s a part of Austin’s history and culture. It has played an important role in the development of the area and continues to be a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
