Built in 1902 Gemeindehaus Mickten boasts elements of Jugendstil. It wasn’t always a community center. Initially a private home it became the Kirchgemeindehaus Mickten in 1938. The building served a vital role during World War II. It offered shelter to the homeless and war refugees.

Imagine the stories whispered within these walls. Stories of families finding refuge. Stories of hope amidst destruction. This wasn’t just a building it was a sanctuary. A place of solace and community.

After the war a parsonage was added in 1951. The Gemeindehaus Mickten is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a testament to resilience. It embodies the spirit of Mickten.

The Gemeindehaus Mickten stands proudly on Homiliusstrasse 15. Its unassuming exterior belies its rich history. This architectural gem reflects the neighborhood’s evolution. It has witnessed both joyful celebrations and times of hardship.

A fascinating detail lies within the tower. It holds a small bell. This bell once belonged to the Sophienkirche. Unfortunately the Sophienkirche was demolished in the early 1960s. The bell however remains a poignant reminder. A silent witness to Dresden’s past.

Today Gemeindehaus Mickten thrives. The Laurentius congregation uses it. It’s a vibrant hub for community activities. From religious services to youth events the building continues to serve its community. The three rooms on the ground floor and the youth basement are always busy. The Gemeindehaus Mickten remains the heart of its neighborhood. Its legacy endures. Its history is one of survival transformation and enduring community spirit.
