Lee Center for the Arts

In February 2006, Seattle University unveiled a gift to the arts. It was the Jeanne Marie & Rhoady Lee Center for the Arts. The Lee Center for the Arts stands at the corner of 12th Avenue and East Marion Street. It transformed a former 1930s auto showroom into a vibrant hub of creativity. This $6.8 million renovation breathed new life into the 22,000-square-foot structure. The Lee Center for the Arts now houses a 150-seat flexible theater. This adaptable space is ideal for drama, dance, and music performances. The center also features the Hedreen Gallery. This inviting space showcases visual art by students and visiting artists. Passersby can admire the art through over 90 feet of plate glass windows along 12th Avenue. Behind the scenes, the Lee Center for the Arts boasts costume and scene shops. There are also dressing rooms, a green room, and a spacious lobby. The building’s design thoughtfully incorporates brick, metal, and glass cladding. This complements the surrounding campus architecture. It also creates a welcoming presence for the university. Even the basement received attention. Underslab drainage was installed to prevent groundwater flooding. The Lee Center for the Arts stands as a testament to Seattle University’s commitment to the arts.
