Well, let me tell you, this school, nestled here in Iizuka, Fukuoka, has a history as rich as the rice paddies that once surrounded it. Fukuoka City Uchino Elementary School has seen a lot of changes since its humble beginnings. Imagine, back in 1873, during the Meiji era, small village schools began popping up. This area, now Uchino Elementary, had one such school. Fast forward to 1888, a pivotal year for our school. It was then that Nishi Elementary School, one of the forerunners of Uchino Elementary, relocated to the Koshi area. The school, renamed Nishijima Elementary in 1893, continued to evolve, moving to its current location in 1912 and becoming Uchinojima Higher Elementary School. The 20th century brought more transformations. In 1941, it was christened Uchino National School. Then, in 1947, post-war educational reforms led to another name change: Uchino Village Uchino Elementary School. With the growth of the Hayafuku Village in 1955, it became Hayafuku Village Uchino Elementary School. Just a year later, the village’s transition to town status resulted in yet another name change: Hayafuku Town Uchino Elementary School. Finally, in 1975, when Hayafuku Town merged with Fukuoka City, our school assumed its present name: Fukuoka City Uchino Elementary School. It even saw the separation of Fukuoka City Hayafuku Elementary School in 1984. Today, Uchino Elementary serves a diverse community. The school district encompasses parts of Oaza Uchino, Uchino 1-8 Chome, Oaza Nishi, and Oaza Ishizu. From bustling residential areas to tranquil remnants of farmland and even the mountainous Ishizu area, the school embraces a mix of landscapes.
