The story of the Munkás Szent József-templom begins in the early 20th century. The Wekerle estate was developing in Kispest. Construction started in 1912. The area needed a place of worship. Wekerle Sándor, Minister of Finance, initiated the project.
The parish of Munkás Szent József was established in 1932. But the church’s construction started earlier in 1926. Béla Heintz designed the Munkás Szent József-templom. By 1930, the church was ready. On Kisboldogasszony day, the church was blessed. The first Holy Mass was held. Bishop Árpád István Hanauer consecrated it in 1932.
The Munkás Szent József-templom was built in Neo-Romanesque style. Its main entrance features ornate stone carvings. The bell tower is also a distinctive feature. The church is 50 meters long and 30 meters wide. Its interior soars to a height of 19 meters. The tower reaches 51 meters.
