Ever danced until the early hours on a school night? Here at XOYO, you almost certainly could. XOYO is a nightclub that stands proudly in Shoreditch. It is on Cowper Street near Old Street station.
Since opening in September 2010, XOYO has become known for its eclectic music. The club has built a reputation for booking all sorts of DJs. XOYO doesn’t stick to one style. It draws in a broad range of musical styles. You might hear hip-hop, grime, house, disco or techno. The music is varied at XOYO.
Inside XOYO, you’ll find two rooms. The main underground space was recently redesigned. The DJ booth is now at the back of the room. This change frees up the stage area for live music. The lighting is also revamped adding to the music experience. Upstairs, there’s a smaller space called Green Room. It also hosts regular residents. The sound system at XOYO is excellent. It got an extra boost recently. Upstairs in the Green Room, there’s been an improvement too.
XOYO is known for its residencies. Many artists have had residencies here. Hunee had a 10-week stay. Ben UFO, Flava D and The Black Madonna have also played here. If they’re at the forefront of electronic music, XOYO will likely book them.
Tickets at XOYO are reasonably priced for London. Early bird tickets can start at £8. Later releases can cost up to £20. Midweek events are cheaper. They start at £5.
On Fridays and Saturdays, XOYO stays open until 4 am. From Monday to Thursday, it’s open until 3 am. XOYO is one of the best places for a school-night rave.
The dress code at XOYO is relaxed. Trainers and jeans are fine. Tracksuits, suits and fancy dress are not permitted, except during Halloween.
XOYO asks clubbers not to use their phones. This creates a good atmosphere. There’s often a lack of phone signal inside. However, some people still take snaps for their Instagram stories.
XOYO is a place to enjoy music without fear. The club welcomes diversity and works to create a safe space. In return, it asks that you respect these values and each other.
