Brønshøj’s cultural heart beats strongly here at Kulturhuset Pilegården. Kulturhuset Pilegården is more than just a building. It is a community hub. Let’s uncover its story.
Kulturhuset Pilegården’s story begins not as a cultural center but as part of Løvens Kemiske Fabrik in 1934. The factory needed an addition to its 1927 building. This area was once Hans Christs Gård. A willow workshop existed on the grounds. Willow branches were brought here. This detail gave Pilegården its name. Pilegården means “The Willow Farm”.
Fast forward to 1958. Løvens Kemiske Fabrik moved. The Teknologisk Institut then occupied the buildings. They established technical schools. In 1978, Copenhagen Municipality took over the complex. The main building became a social center. In September 1983, the back building transformed. It became a community center run by KUC or Copenhagen’s Youth Centers.
Today, the original Pilegård building still stands. It is now known as Pilegårdens Anneks. It houses one of Denmark’s largest role-playing associations, Rollespilsfabrikken. So, even in its annex, Kulturhuset Pilegården continues to foster creativity.
Kulturhuset Pilegården plays a vital role in Brønshøj-Husum. It is a local cultural center. It offers a diverse range of activities. These include concerts and lectures. Theater performances and exercise classes are also available. Trade shows and markets add to the vibrant atmosphere.
Each year, Kulturhuset Pilegården welcomes thousands of visitors. The Kulturhuset Pilegården also rents out its spaces. These spaces are for courses and private events. This makes it a versatile venue.
Kulturhuset Pilegården is part of Kultur Nord. This is an administrative unit. It falls under Copenhagen Municipality’s Culture and Leisure Administration. This ensures the Kulturhuset Pilegården remains a valuable community asset.
Interestingly, in 2024, some activities moved. The cultural activities and local rentals shifted to BRØK. This is Brønshøj Kulturhus. It is located in Brønshøj Gamle Skole. However, motion, gymnastics, and ceramics continue here at Pilegården.
So, as we stand here, remember the many layers of Kulturhuset Pilegården. From its humble beginnings as a factory annex to its current role as a cultural hub. Kulturhuset Pilegården continues to evolve. It adapts to the needs of its community. It is a testament to the enduring power of culture and community spirit.
