The boundary between Essendon and Keilor municipalities ran right through the primary school. This was quite unusual. Did you know that Essendon North is a residential suburb in Melbourne? The suburb was only officially gazetted as a suburb in 1998. Before that, it was part of the city of Essendon. The area called North Essendon was actually a bit further south than where Essendon North is today. The first Anglican Christ church, built in 1890, was located there, on Mt Alexander Road. This church was later joined by a Methodist church and a Church of Christ, opened in 1886 and 1890 respectively. Essendon North has close access to shops in Keilor Road. The suburb is a little over 10 kilometers north-west of the centre of Melbourne, nestled between Keilor Road, Calder Freeway, and Bulla Road. Even though Essendon North was officially gazetted in 1998, the first houses were built in the 1920s and 1930s.
