Established in 2017 Meridian Secondary School boasts a rich history. It’s a merger of two schools Coral and Siglap Secondary School. Meridian stands proudly in Pasir Ris. Its story is one of unity and growth.

Coral Secondary opened in 1999. It started with just six Secondary One classes. The initial staff included 17 teachers and 8 support staff. They began lessons at Siglap Secondary. Then they moved to their new building on November 15 1999. The official opening was on May 19 2001 by Education Minister Teo Chee Hean.

Siglap Secondary School however has a longer history. It opened in 1955. It was Singapore’s first co-educational government secondary school. It was also one of the first to offer Malay-medium secondary classes. Siglap’s original location was Cheviot Hill in Siglap. Later it moved to Pasir Ris.

The merger of Coral and Siglap into Meridian wasn’t unexpected. In 2015 the Ministry of Education announced Siglap wouldn’t accept new students in 2016. The merger followed in March 2016. Meridian’s motto is Unite to Reach New Heights. This reflects the spirit of both predecessor schools.

Meridian offers three academic streams. There is the four-year Express course. There’s also the Normal Course with Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) tracks. The school’s uniform is simple. Boys wear white shirts and dark blue pants. Girls wear white blouses and dark blue culottes.

Meridian’s legacy extends beyond academics. Siglap was known for its strong football program. This tradition continues at Meridian. Meridian also has a flourishing Arts and Music program. It’s one of only nine schools with an Enhanced Art Programme. The Applied Learning Programme in Visual Communication is another strength.

Meridian’s journey demonstrates resilience. Even during COVID-19 restrictions the school held meaningful events. A virtual run was one way they celebrated their 5th anniversary in 2021. Meridian Secondary School continues to evolve. It strives to provide positive experiences. It aims to nurture inquiring minds and caring hearts. It truly lives up to its name.
