“Masjid Pilihan Ulama” whispers the wind through the minarets. This is Masjid Al-Abdul Razak a place where history and faith intertwine.

Built in 1965 during Singapore’s independence from Malaysia Masjid Al-Abdul Razak stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Muslim community. Its construction began in 1964. It was officially opened in March 1966 by Singapore’s first president Yusof Ishak. The mosque was named after a generous Kuwaiti businessman Abdul Razak who donated the land.

Tuan Syed Hussain Ali Habsyi the first imam lived in the quarters behind the mosque. He and other local elders were the initial caretakers. Their dedication and the invitation of respected clerics established the mosque’s reputation as “Masjid Pilihan Ulama” the choice of Muslim scholars.

Initially open only to men the mosque’s formation of an official Mosque Management Board in 1991 brought significant change. This board a collaboration between the congregation and Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) allowed for the inclusion of women. Dedicated religious classes for women were then established.

Masjid Al-Abdul Razak is more than just a place of worship. It’s a hub of learning. Well-known clerics have long conducted classes and discussions. Mawlid Dibaie a longstanding tradition is regularly held. Weekly Fardhu Ain classes for women continue. The mosque adapted to the times using technology to expand its reach through online lectures and classes. The mosque continues to undergo renovations reflecting its ongoing commitment to serving the community.

Today Masjid Al-Abdul Razak remains a beacon of faith and learning. It’s a place of community and spiritual growth. A testament to a rich history and a vibrant future. A place where the legacy of Tuan Syed Hussain Ali Habsyi and Abdul Razak’s generosity lives on. It stands as a symbol of Singapore’s multicultural heritage.
