The Izaak Walton League of America has roots that go back to the 17th century, with an enduring goal of protecting our natural resources. Standing here, in front of the Izaak Walton League’s headquarters, you can feel the history and the passion of those who came before. The League was founded in 1922 by a group of anglers who wanted to ensure that future generations could enjoy the same outdoor experiences they did. They took their name from Izaak Walton, a 17th-century author who wrote “The Compleat Angler,” a classic book that celebrated the art and spirit of angling.
This chapter, however, wasn’t founded until 1937. The Bush Lake Chapter, originally called the South Minneapolis Chapter, is dedicated to preserving the water quality and wildlife habitats of the Minnesota River Valley. They work hard to conserve groundwater, improve habitat corridors, and combat the impact of stormwater runoff. Their efforts are a testament to the deep commitment of the Izaak Walton League of America in the fight to protect our precious natural resources.
