Gazing up at the Erlöserkirche, have you ever wondered about the stories these walls could tell? The Erlöserkirche stands as a testament to the rich history of Kassel-Harleshausen. The official establishment of the independent community of Kassel-Harleshausen dates back to March 15, 1908. The Erlöserkirche itself, a magnificent neo-Gothic structure, has witnessed the passage of time since its cornerstone was laid in 1907. Its towering presence, marked by a 49.5-meter-high steeple housing six resonant bells, dominates the Harleshausen skyline. The Erlöserkirche underwent a significant renovation in 1970. This renovation included the installation of a Kleuther organ boasting 23 registers, enriching the church’s musical capabilities. In 1957, a parish hall was constructed adjacent to the Erlöserkirche, further expanding the church’s facilities and community outreach. Later, a building dedicated to youth work was acquired on Helmarshäuser Straße 6 and completely renovated in 1999. For the 75th anniversary of the Erlöserkirche in 1982, Kassel-based artist Hermann Pohl crafted a remarkable new pulpit, a beautiful addition to the church’s interior. A century later, in 2008, the church community celebrated the Erlöserkirche’s centennial anniversary, a testament to its enduring presence in the community. A commemorative publication detailing the church’s history was released for the occasion and can still be found in the parish offices and community office. Situated near the heart of Harleshausen’s historic village center, the Erlöserkirche, along with its parish hall, serves as a vital hub for the community. It hosts not only church services but also community groups, computer courses for seniors, and a wide array of events. Music plays a particularly important role in the life of the Erlöserkirche and the broader community. A choir, a gospel choir, and several instrumental groups contribute to the vibrant cultural life of the church and the city, performing concerts that have earned citywide acclaim.
