Amidst the everyday hustle, a grand structure stands tall. Taastrup Nykirke. This church holds a story woven into the very fabric of Taastrup. It’s a tale of community spirit and a longing for a spiritual home. Taastrup Nykirke emerged from the townspeople’s desire to worship closer to home. They yearned to avoid the long trek to Høj Taastrup’s church. In 1902, this yearning ignited a spark, a collective dream to build their own church. The townspeople embraced this dream wholeheartedly. A committee formed at the local inn, fueled by the shared vision. Everyone contributed what they could. Their hope was for a church near the station, the heart of their burgeoning town. Proprietor Ibsen from Lykkensgave answered their call. He generously donated land right by the station. This act of generosity propelled the project forward. Remarkably, just a year later, the committee had raised enough funds to break ground. On December 15, 1907, Taastrup Nykirke stood complete. The bishop consecrated the church, a testament to the community’s dedication. Initially known as Taastrup Kirke, it quickly earned the affectionate nickname “Taastrup Nykirke” (New Church). This moniker, though never officially sanctioned, resonated with the community. It’s even inscribed on the new church bell from 1923. The bell’s inscription tells of its original casting in 1907 and its subsequent recasting and enlargement for “Taastrup Nykirke” in 1923. This church isn’t just a building. It embodies the spirit of Taastrup. A symbol of community, perseverance, and faith.
