Ecuador’s geological secrets whisper from the Instituto de Investigación Geológico y Energético. Here, at this unassuming building, the earth’s stories are unearthed. The Instituto de Investigación Geológico y Energético was born in 2018. A presidential decree, number 399 to be exact, merged two existing institutes. These institutes focused on energy efficiency, renewable energies, geology, mining, and metallurgy. This fusion created a powerhouse of scientific investigation. The Instituto de Investigación Geológico y Energético strengthens scientific research related to earth sciences. This, in turn, improves institutional capabilities. It cultivates specialized human and technical resources. The Instituto de Investigación Geológico y Energético is more than just a building. It’s a hub where scientific work, technological development, and local innovation converge. They even have a PhD in Economic Geology on staff, a graduate of the Stanislaw Staszic University of Mining and Metallurgy in Poland.
