St. Pius

In the heart of Huchting, a Bremen neighborhood teeming with life, stands St. Pius. A wave of Catholic families moved into the newly developed housing area in Huchting in 1957 and 1958. Over one thousand new residents needed a place to worship. Initially, mass was held in the Friedhofskapelle (cemetery chapel) by a clergyman from St. Johann. This continued every Sunday from March 30, 1959. The need for a dedicated space grew. In 1963, Huchting established its own pastoral district. St. Pius officially became a parish on November 1, 1966. It was separated from St. Johann and the Sacred Heart Curacy. The parish further solidified its roots with the establishment of its own parish on October 1, 1971. St. Pius served a community of 3,500 members. The Catholic elementary school in St. Pius also dates back to this period. The church grounds are also home to a Catholic daycare center. A new building for the daycare was erected next to the elementary school in 2009. The influence of St. Pius extends to Mittelshuchting, Sodenmatt, Kirchhuchting, Grolland, and parts of Strom. These areas all fall within the catchment area of St. Pius. Today, St. Pius continues its mission of service. The church welcomes worshippers for Holy Mass every Wednesday and Friday at 9:00 am, and again on Sundays at 9:30 am. The church, the school, and the daycare all coexist harmoniously. They share the same grounds. This close proximity encourages close collaboration between the institutions. It fosters a sense of community centered around St. Pius.
