Stepping onto the grounds of Fukuoka City Tatara Junior High School, imagine the echoes of students past. This school, known as Fukuoka Shiritsu Tatara Chugakko, has stood here in Fukuoka’s Higashi Ward since 1947. Originally called Fukuoka Ken Kasuya Gun Tatara Chugakko, the school was established in the wake of World War II. Can you picture the temporary buildings and the resilience of a community rebuilding? The school officially became Fukuoka City Tatara Junior High School in 1955 when the area was incorporated into Fukuoka City. The school’s history is etched in the city’s growth. Fukuoka City Tatara Junior High School played a key role in establishing two other schools. Fukuoka City Tatara Central Junior High School split from Tatara in 1975. Later, Fukuoka City Matsuzoe Junior High School also branched out from Tatara in 1992. These ‘children’ of Tatara Junior High School demonstrate its lasting impact on education in the area. In 1991, students from Fukuoka City Tatara Junior High embarked on a groundbreaking study trip to Kansai and Kyoto. This marked Fukuoka City’s first westward-facing study trip. Just a year later, the school organized its first ski trip, expanding the horizons of its students. Today, Fukuoka City Tatara Junior High School continues its legacy of nurturing young minds. The school embraces a variety of activities, including baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and soft tennis. Students can also join cultural clubs, further enriching their experiences at Fukuoka City Tatara Junior High School.
