Behold Parroquia Santa Ana. Its story began long before its current walls stood tall.
Let’s step back to 1912. Religious sisters from the Congregation of the Hermanas de la Caridad arrived. They settled on Cuenca Street.
In 1913, a chapel was erected. The growing neighborhood needed a parish. It was dedicated to Santa Niña and San Antonio de Padua.
By 1920, the community sought a new, larger home for their parish. A commission was formed to raise funds. In 1923, the land where Parroquia Santa Ana now stands was secured. The cornerstone was laid on January 1, 1924.
Construction faced delays. During this time, the parish came under the patronage of Santa Ana.
By late 1925, progress resumed. The choir walls were raised. Windows were installed. A 500-kilo bell was acquired. The central nave was provisionally opened in October 1926.
Throughout 1927, donations poured in. These included an altar, an organ, mosaics and pews. Religious images were gifted. The parish house was built. The main altar was obtained.
The Archbishop of Buenos Aires, José María Bottaro blessed the new church and altar. This marked a new chapter for Parroquia Santa Ana.
The architecture presents a Romanesque and classical style. Its triangular front is supported by four Corinthian columns. Atop the church stands a tower. It is crowned with a wrought iron cross.
Modifications occurred in the 1970s. The windows and entrance doors were changed. The main altar was renovated. The mural above the altar was restored.
Parroquia Santa Ana’s image is part of Villa del Parque’s official emblem. It shares the honor with the Palacio de los Bichos, the train station and a lamppost.
Today, Parroquia Santa Ana continues its mission. Its motto is “Desde 1913 anunciando a Jesús resucitado en Villa del Parque”. Since 1913 announcing the resurrected Jesus in Villa del Parque. It stands as a testament to faith and community. It is a beacon in the Villa del Parque neighborhood.
The church is located on Pedro Lozano 3136. Since 1913, it has been a beautiful temple. It stands out for its architectural details. It represents the Passion of Christ. There is an altar dedicated to the parents of the Virgin Mary. You can hear the San Martín train during Mass. This adds a special charm to this place. It is a place of prayer and spiritual encounter for visitors.
