Here in Orly, a quiet street bears the name of a pioneering aviator, the first woman in the world to earn a pilot license. Élise Deroche, born in Paris in 1882, was a true daredevil. She was an actress and a painter, but her passion for speed led her to motorsport. In 1909, she was captivated by aviation and decided to learn to fly. She trained with Charles Voisin, a prominent aircraft designer at the time. On March 8, 1910, she made history by achieving the world’s first female pilot license. Although her life was tragically cut short in 1919 when she died in a plane crash, her legacy lives on. Just like this street, a tribute to her courage and her contribution to aviation history. The name Élise Deroche reminds us of the incredible strength and determination women showed in the early days of aviation.
