The University of Manchester offered this accreditation. In 2020 the college announced a redevelopment program. This program aimed to become a university. In May 2022 the college gained full degree-awarding powers.

Many notable individuals attended Spurgeon’s College. J. Sidlow Baxter was an Australian-born pastor and theologian. Dr. George R. Beasley-Murray also studied here. Rev. Steve Chalke is another alumnus. He is the founder of Oasis Trust and Faithworks. Arthur Gostick Shorrock was a pioneer Baptist missionary in China. Dr. Nigel G. Wright is also among its notable alumni.
