The Tierpark Mainz-Kastel emerged. In 1968, the society for the preservation and promotion of the Tiergarten Mainz-Kastel was founded.
Martha Vierengel played a crucial role in the park’s survival. In 1997, she brought the Tierpark Mainz-Kastel’s plight to the attention of City Councilor Rainer Schuster. Schuster established the Biotop Petersberg working group. This collaboration ensured the park’s future. The cities of Wiesbaden and Mainz provided funds for renovations.
Today, Tierpark Mainz-Kastel is home to a variety of animals. You will see goats, sheep, and ponies. A cow, geese, ducks, and chickens also reside here. Rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, bees, water turtles, and cats complete the animal family. A dedicated animal keeper cares for them.
