Here at UTN Haedo what whispers do you think echo through its halls? This institution stands as a vital part of the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional. It is the leading technological university in Argentina. UTN Haedo is in the western suburb of Buenos Aires.

UTN Haedo started as an annex of the Facultad Regional Buenos Aires on May 5, 1967. This was because there was a need for a UTN faculty in the area. Student enrollment increased quickly. On April 3, 1970 the annex became a delegation. It was the Facultad Regional Buenos Aires delegation. It operated at the Instituto Almirante Brown. In 1971, the delegation reported to the Rectorate.

Industrial needs grew over time. UTN Haedo was recognized as a Facultad Regional on September 30, 1972. At that time, it only offered Mechanical Engineering.

UTN Haedo offers several undergraduate and graduate programs. These include Aeronautical Engineering. Electronic Engineering and Industrial Engineering are also offered. You can also study Mechanical Engineering and Railway Engineering here. Bioengineering is another option. Postgraduate studies include specializations. These are in Occupational Health and Safety. There is also Structural Engineering. It focuses on pressure vessels and piping. You can also study for a Master’s in Mechanical Structural Engineering. A Doctorate in Materials Engineering is available.

In 1975, UTN Haedo began teaching Aeronautical Engineering. The proximity of military and civil airports made this necessary. UTN Haedo became a primary source. It provided professionals for the aeronautical industry. Electronic Engineering was added in 1994. Industrial Engineering followed in 1995. These programs met industry needs. They gave secondary school students access to higher education.

Railway Engineering was approved in 2013. Classes began in 2014. The course lasts five years plus one trimester. UTN Haedo is the only university in the country. It offers this specialty. Bioengineering was presented for accreditation in 2023. Classes started in 2024.

UTN Haedo did not initially have its own building. It operated in various local institutions. These included Instituto Almirante Brown and Colegio San Judas Tadeo. Neighbors supported UTN’s arrival. They wanted the university to have its own building in Haedo. Members of Sociedad de Fomento Primera Junta helped. They worked with UTN authorities to get land. The Club de Leones and the Rotary Club of Haedo also participated.

The Government of Buenos Aires Province donated land to UTN. This was on March 1, 1972. Law 7834 reassigned public land for the building’s construction. The first stone was laid in 1975. Construction began on April 30, 1976. The building at París 532 was finally opened in 1983.

A new building opened on July 26, 2009. It added eleven classrooms. It also included a large hall and a library. There was also a reading room. Construction began on another new building in November 2021. It is on the block next to the main building. The first phase finished in 2023. It was inaugurated on October 24 of the same year. This new building has two floors. Each floor has seven classrooms. There is also a research area and support areas. This increased UTN Haedo’s capacity by 30%. A second phase is planned. It will add two more floors. A sports center will also be built on the same block.

UTN Haedo has several research and practice laboratories. These support the courses taught. These include laboratories for Structures and Material Testing. There are also labs for Physics and Chemistry. You’ll also find labs for Aerodynamics and Fluid Mechanics. There is even a Flight Simulation and Control lab. Labs for Non-Destructive Testing and Metallography are also available.
